RTW: To Be Young Again

Writing Song of the Day: "When You Were Young" by The Killers

So it's the second day of the school year for Quita and me, but we still have time to take a little road trip with the lovely ladies of YA Highway. This week for Road Trip Wednesday they want to know:

What non-YA character would you love to see star in a YA book as themselves?

Ooh, good question! Probably our favorite one so far...but it also completely stumped us.

After much, MUCH thought, Quita came up with Ms. Sookie Stackhouse herself from the Charlaine Harris series. Why? Perhaps because she was Bella Swan before there was even a Bella Swan--not to mention she has some kick ass fairy powers. And pretty much every guy she meets, supernatural or otherwise, falls in love with her. That is one problem we'd LOVE to have.

We actually stole our other choice. I saw that the lovely Katy Upperman mentioned Dexter Morgan, star of one of our favorite TV shows evah. And Dexter would be awesome to see as a teen. We already have a vague idea of his background based on flashback, but to be there in the moment with him while he makes his first kill and discovers his dark passenger? Whoa. Okay, we realize that sounds a little demented, but hey--we're writers. That gives us a crazy pass.

What about you all? Who would you love to see as YA character?

If I were to do mine over, I'd pick Dexter. Or maybe Sookie, too! Yours are excellent choices.

Awesome choice.

There's a lit agent - I forget who, of course when it matters - who said she's dying for a YA Dexter type book. I sure am not the person to write that although I love the show. I'm not sure how well a sympathetic teen serial killer book would go over, but I can imagine if the right person wrote it, it could work.

I'm reading Moonglass by Jessi Kirby (probably the opposite of Dexter in every way) and I keep imagining Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights as the main character's father.

Not sure if this is exactly answering the question, but I would love a book focusing on the Joker from Batman. I've always been super curious about his backstory and how he became the twisted, mental villain that he is. Dexter is an awesome choice, just as everyone else here said :)

I liked your choices, ladies!

Have you read I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER? I haven't seen Dexter, but I hear it's like a Dexter for YA - with a little bit of a paranormal twist.

We haven't read I am Not a Serial Killer but it's in both of our TBR piles! It does seem like that will satisfy the need for a YA Dexter.

Thanks for the comments so far, peeps!

My pick was Dexter, too! I haven't read the books, I admit, but his character on the show is so magnetic and intriguing. Could just be Michael C. Hall though, haha ;)

Ooo Dexter's a good one. LOVE that show, even though it's super creepy!
